Sperm Whales and Jojoba Oil…huh? March 21 2014, 0 Comments

Jojoba Oil has been used commercially the United States since1980. Interestingly, it’s popularity grew as a direct result of the prohibition of the killing of sperm whales by industrialized nations. It seems that the whale oil- spermacetti- was used heavily by the cosmetic industry. Once this spermacetti oil became unavailable, the cosmetic industry turned abruptly to the oil of the jojoba seed. The American Indians of the Sonora Desert region had been extracting jojoba oil with their primitive methods for hundreds of years in order to use on burns and other skin irritations.

Today, many countries produce jojoba oil. The worlds largest producers include USA, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Israel and Australia.

Jojoba oil has many uses and benefits-

•    As an anti-bacterial—Jojoba oil has shown itself to be very effective in preventing and treating infections of the skin.
•    As a moisturizer—Because jojoba oil is so similar to the natural oils that our bodies produce on a regular basis, it is particularly effective as a moisturizer. It is easily absorbed and leaves the skin feeling soft and supple. This superb all-natural moisturizer is highly effective for treating dry skin, thereby helping to create a more youthful appearance.

•    As an anti-inflammatory—As the American Indians of the desert southwest discovered, jojoba oil reduces the painful swelling and redness that so often accompanies a skin injury or allergy such as poison oak or poison ivy. Its anti-inflammatory properties also make it an effective treatment for acne.
•    As an acne treatment—Jojoba oil can benefit younger skin just as much as it benefits older skin. Acne, typically a problem for teenagers, is usually characterized by pimples and clogged pores. These blemishes can eventually become infected if not treated appropriately. Since many over-the-counter skin products contain animal fat, they can actually make acne even worse. But jojoba oil is non-greasy, and because it’s a natural antiseptic, it’s a very effective treatment for acne. Jojoba oil both cleanses and moisturizes the skin at the same time.
Jojoba oil is a completely natural, healthy treatment for the skin. At Tahoe Bath Works we use jojoba oil in our bath bombs, bubble bath, lotions and body oils because even though it may be a little pricey, we feel the results are worth every penny! We know you will too.
